Mapping a pathway to success

When it comes to large-scale projects, they don’t come much bigger than those happening in the renewable energy industry at the moment.

As the race to decarbonise Australia's energy industry intensifies, Tasmania has a big part to play in our renewable future. Our consultants work with businesses leading the way in this transformation.

When undertaking major development projects, a large amount of work goes into mapping current state to future state, and ensuring all the processes and systems are robust and auditable and perform to expectations.

On a major renewable industry project earlier this year, this is where we jumped in to help out.

Part of the process

Here at GSD, joining the dots is one of our favourite things to do. And we’re not talking about making pretty pictures (although they sometimes happen anyway which is always a delightful surprise). We’re talking about mapping a pathway from A to B and ensuring every step is documented along the way.

With this project it was important we engaged with all stakeholders to establish and document the correct business processes and ensure the correct workflows were in place.

Continuous improvement

When we build process maps, we don’t just record the steps as they exist. We look at ways to improve the processes to increase efficiency. We look at where the business is at, and where they want to go, and ways of refining the pathway to success to help them get there.

We need to develop a good understanding of what the client requires, what systems and processes are available and match these to find the best outcome.

More than just ‘set and forget’

As consultants we know the importance of embedding ourselves in the project team and making sure the team has the tools and information they need to keep everything running smoothly into the future.

After launch, we create documentation that details the processes mapped, the traceability of information and system operations for the client to rewfer back to.

‘It’s important that we can leave a project knowing that we have documented all of our work in a way that our clients can continue to use if and when they need it.’
